Mark Allen BSc (Hons) MIFA, Director

Graduated from Bradford University with an Honours Degree in Archaeology in 1996. Since then Mark has worked as an archaeologist on sites throughout the UK. During this period he has gained extensive knowledge of all aspects of commercial archaeology, especially in the planning domain. He is very experienced in all forms of archaeological investigation from initial desktop surveys through to full excavation and report writing, always completing schemes on time and within budget. Mark is especially skilled at producing project designs, mitigation strategies and project costings for schemes ranging from small housing developments to large-scale infrastructure projects.

Organisation memberships include full Member of the Institute for Archaeologists (MIfA), Wetland Archaeology Research Project and Yorkshire Archaeology Society (Prehistoric Section).

When asked the question, 'found any gold?', he is one of the few archaeologists who can say yes, having discovered two Bronze Age gold armlets at Lockington barrow in Leicestershire. They are now housed safely in the British Museum, alongside a photo of Mark when he had more hair and was somewhat thinner.

For some strange reason, Mark has a keen interest both in the Bronze Age, and in wetland archaeology, and also has some unhealthy ideas about cannibalism in the Bronze Age in the UK.
